Chromebook 1:1 Initiative
-
During the November 9, 2017 City of St. Charles School District Board of Education meeting, the Board approved of a Chromebook 1:1 initiative policy. Beginning in January of 2018, all District 10th and 11th graders will be loaned Chromebooks for the remainder of the school year.
The goal of this initiative is to provide our students with the tools needed to succeed in a world that is increasingly collaborative, internet-based and technology-oriented. The District is able to provide this service to our students due to the passing of Proposition KIDS, a no-tax rate increase bond issue, that was approved in April of 2017.
While the Chromebooks are purchased and paid for by the District, there will be a yearly insurance fee of $25 associated with the device prior its distribution. This fee must be paid prior to or during Chromebook pickup meetings. If you are unable to pay the insurance, your child will be allowed to check out a Chromebook daily during the school day.
Insurance payments can be made online from December 1st to January 3rd by clicking here. Students who make their payment during this time frame will receive their Chromebooks on Friday, January 5th. For those who are not able to make the insurance payment during this time frame, there will be a Chromebook pickup night at your high school.
The Chromebook pickup night for St. Charles High will be held on January 8th from 5 - 7:30 pm. The Chromebook pickup night for St. Charles West will be held on January 9th from 5 - 7:30 pm. At these events, payment can only be made with cash, check or credit/debit cards.
The District’s Chromebook policy handbook, insurance agreement and opt out form can be found by clicking here. Please review this documentation prior to making your insurance payment.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Chromebook 1:1 initiative, please contact the main office at the school your student attends.
The City of St. Charles School District is excited to be taking this step into the future of education!
