Jillian Rodgers, a student at St. Charles West High School, recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award demonstrating extraordinary leadership through a remarkable community service project. Only open to girls in high school, the Gold Award is given to those who strive to make a difference in the worlds of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), education and legislation, and is the equivalent of the Eagle Scout award given to Boy Scouts.
Every Gold Award scout participates in a project. At the start of her project, Rodgers organized a money-earning activity – she needed funds to host her Fresh Cut, Fresh Start event. This event, which took place at the Current Trends Academy, offered participants a free haircut, style and makeup application tutorial. At the end of Fresh Cut, Fresh Start, Rodgers gave each girl a bag which included beauty and hair products plus a booklet she designed and wrote herself featuring self-care tips. Because of the time, energy and passion Rodgers put into her Gold Award project, she made an impact on dozens of girls in her community!
Congratulations to Jillian on her recognition and a job well done!
