UMSL Drop Policy:  In a normal 16-week semester at UMSL, students may drop a course without receiving an EX on their transcript until the 8th week.  They may continue to drop the course with an EX until the 12th week. After the 12th week, they may only drop a course for an extreme reason with approval of the instructor and dean of the student’s degree program.  No drop request is allowed after a student has completed their final exam.

ACP Policy:  Since our partnering schools all have different semester dates and lengths, we have adopted a similar policy, based on the schools with the latest semester calendars.  These will be the drop deadlines that will be enforced this academic year:

    Classes Ending in the

    Fall Semester

Classes Ending in the Spring Semester

Last day to drop without the class appearing on a transcript.  (After this point, a letter grade or an EX will appear on the transcript)

Also last day for fee reimbursement for students who drop.

    Monday, December 2nd

    Monday, April 14th

Last day to drop a course.  An EX grade will be issued.  (After this point, a letter grade will appear on the transcript.)

    Monday, December 30th

    Monday, May 19th

Official grades for courses are due to the university

    Monday, January 27th

    Monday, June 16th

To reiterate the ACP drop policy for fall…

Drop requests made on or before Monday, December 2nd:  The course will not appear on the student’s transcript, and the student will be reimbursed for the tuition of that class.  It will be as if the student never registered for the class.

Drop requests made on or between December 3rd and December 30th:  The course will appear on the student’s transcript and a grade of EX will appear.  Students will not be reimbursed for the tuition of that class.   A few things to note as you are explaining drops to students…EX grades do not affect GPA.  No reason for dropping will appear on a transcript either.  Someone looking at the transcript won’t know if the student was doing poorly, changed their mind, or had other life events trigger the withdrawl.  Admissions offices typically don’t care too much about seeing an occasional EX grade.  However, frequent EX grades might be considered a “red flag”.

Drop requests made on or after December 31st:  These will not be honored.  The student will receive a letter grade for the course (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F) based on the work completed.  Their GPA will be affected by the letter grade in the course.  Students will not be reimbursed for the tuition of that class.

If there is some unforeseen emergency situation after December 30th, such as a major hospitalization where a student will be unable to complete the last few weeks of a course, please contact our office and we can deal with those on an individual basis.
